The City continues to take steady steps forward, while honoring both our history and the moment our community is in.
All four flags are now proudly flying in the park, and Public Works has repaired the light that properly illuminates the U.S. flag. Standing nearby is our city’s founder, Abner Weed, a reminder that this community was built on perseverance, resilience, and shared responsibility.
We know many in our community are experiencing real pain and uncertainty right now. These visible improvements are not meant to overlook that reality, but to reflect care for our shared spaces and respect for the community we all call home.
Thank you to our Public Works team for their continued efforts, and to the community for continuing to move forward... together, one step at a time.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to remediate City Hall and ensure a safe environment for staff and the public. While City operations were temporarily conducted remotely, we are pleased to share that the Utility Office is now open at the Library, where residents can make payments and receive assistance with utility-related questions or concerns.
We are still in the process of transferring phone services, and we will provide additional updates as that work is completed. Please continue to leave a message on our machine and one of our staff members will call back.
Temporary Utility Office Hours (Library Location):
Monday–Thursday | 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
These hours will remain in effect until further notice or until City Hall remediation is complete.
We sincerely appreciate the community’s patience, understanding, and support during this process.

The City of Weed would like to inform the community that, as of approximately 8:35 pm, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has safely captured the mountain lion that has been feeding on pets and feral cats in our area. This effort required many hours of coordinated work, and we extend our sincere thanks to the City of Weed Police Department and to CDFW—especially biologist Stacy Anderson—for their dedication in tracking and safely securing the animal. We appreciate the community’s patience and continued vigilance in monitoring pets and reporting wildlife activity.

In collaboration with Police Chief Justin Mayberry, I would like to clarify that the Weed Police Department remains open, despite the ongoing renovation and testing at City Hall. Because the department operates 24 hours a day, providing essential services including 911 dispatch, staffing is being managed to maintain complete continuity of service while keeping all city staff safe. It was my oversight not to include that in my public posts. For non-emergencies, you can reach the department at (530) 938-5000. As always, dial 9-1-1 for emergencies.

With the increase in temperature, dead grass and hotter, drier conditions the Weed City Fire Department will be suspending burn permits for outdoor residential burning. We appreciate the communities work to create defensible space and clear your property of dead vegetation. Please continue to stay active in reducing your fire potential around your residence and staying fire safe. For additional information on how to create defensible space visit

Welcome to Weed
The City of Weed, California is nestled at the base of Mount Shasta in the Cascade Mountains and half way between San Francisco and Portland. The community is surrounded by natural beauty, breathtaking vistas, and unmatched outdoor recreation. The City is a historic lumber town which has retained much of its early 1900's charm, while transitioning into a tourist destination. An easy one-hour drive north of Redding on Interstate 5 brings you to our home where you may enjoy abundant lakes and rivers, beautiful forests, wildlife, scenic drives, local art, festivals, live music, and a friendly community.
