This week has been challenging for many in our community, and we want to begin by expressing our sincere concern for every family affected by the shutdown at Roseburg Forest Products. As we shared in our letter and press release earlier this week, our thoughts are with the workers, their spouses, children, and extended families who are facing this uncertainty. Weed has always been a resilient community. We face challenges together, and we overcome them together.
The City is actively coordinating with our regional partners, state agencies, and local organizations to identify resources, chart a path forward, and support those impacted. We encourage residents to attend the upcoming City Council meeting at the Community Center, where we will continue the conversation and discuss next steps.
City Hall Access & Building Repairs
City Hall is currently operating under limited public hours as we move into the next phase of building repairs. With the roof now fully rebuilt, bids are being submitted for interior work to address the damage left behind by years of leaks. December is the least disruptive time to complete this work due to the holiday season, and we appreciate the community’s patience.
During this period:
The best way to reach City staff is by phone message or email
Staff will return calls as quickly as possible
For emergencies, please get in touch with the Weed Police Department
This is a temporary situation, and we will keep the community informed as we move toward reopening regular access.
Water System Improvements
The City continues its work to modernize and strengthen our water system. This includes:
Advancing a comprehensive overhaul of our water regulations
Beginning a new maintenance and inspection program for the City’s water tanks
Reviewing long-term infrastructure needs as part of our capital planning process
These efforts will help ensure the reliability, safety, and long-term sustainability of our water system.
Streetlight Repairs Underway
Thanks to a complete community-wide inventory conducted earlier this month, the City has identified several streetlights that need repair. Public Works is coordinating with Pacific Power for the lights they own, while City crews will be fixing the ones under our responsibility. Improving safety, visibility, and reliability remains a top priority.
New Flags for City Hall
A local veteran brought to our attention that the flags at City Hall were worn and needed to be replaced. We appreciated the notice—and agreed with it.
Since then:
A new U.S. flag has been installed
New California, Siskiyou County, and City of Weed flags are on the way
Public Works is repairing the flagpole lighting to ensure proper illumination
We look forward to raising all four flags together once the complete set arrives.
Holiday Decorations
A big thank-you to the Chamber of Commerce, Public Works, and the Fire Department for helping make this year’s Old-Fashioned Christmas and Tree-Lighting event such a success. Despite everything happening at City Hall, the community came together to create a wonderful holiday celebration for families to enjoy.
Website Upgrade Coming Soon
The City has signed an agreement to transition to a new website provider, which will result in annual savings and provide us with enhanced tools for communication, online payments, and public access. Our first onboarding meeting with the provider is scheduled for the week of December 11th, and we’re excited to begin the transition. More information will be shared as we approach the launch.
Thank You, Weed
