Weed, CA — The City of Weed acknowledges Roseburg Forest Products’ announcement regarding the consolidation of its veneer production operations and the subsequent closure of the Weed veneer plant effective December 3, 2025.
While the decision marks the end of a significant chapter in our community’s industrial history, the City of Weed wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Roseburg for its decades-long partnership with our town. Roseburg has been a cornerstone of the local economy for nearly 40 years, providing stable employment, contributing generously to community programs, and demonstrating a sustained commitment to the well-being of Weed and its residents.
The company’s role in constructing and donating the Weed Fire Department building, an act of faithful community stewardship, stands as one of the most meaningful symbols of Roseburg’s investment in the City and its people. We are also appreciative that Roseburg has reaffirmed its intention to honor all donations previously committed to the City through the Weed Community 501(c)(6) Foundation.
A Message to Our Residents: Weed Is Strong, Resilient, and Moving Forward
To the families directly impacted by this transition: the City of Weed stands with you. We are actively coordinating with all local and regional partners, including workforce agencies, economic development organizations, educational institutions, and business leaders, to support affected employees and ensure a smooth transition.
We want our residents to hear this clearly: Weed is a business-friendly community with a superb, educated, and competent workforce. Our people are resourceful, talented, and resilient qualities that have defined Weed’s character for generations. Although this moment brings uncertainty, it also presents an opportunity: the chance to attract new investment, cultivate new industries, and continue building a future that honors our past while expanding our economic horizons.
A Commitment to Collaboration and Stability
The City is committed to continued partnership with Roseburg, even as the company reshapes its operational footprint. We will work together with community organizations, the private sector, and regional agencies to:
· Provide support and resources to affected workers and their families
· Pursue economic development opportunities for the site and region
· Encourage business growth and retention throughout the City
· Maintain transparent communication with residents as new information becomes available.
Looking Ahead
Weed has faced challenges before, and each time, we have risen stronger. This moment is no different. As we move through this transition together, our focus will remain on stability, compassion, and long-term economic sustainability for all who call Weed home.
