Statement from the City Manager Regarding Structure Fire Investigation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Weed is releasing an update regarding the structure fire that occurred on September 28, 2025, involving multiple properties, including 269 Main Street, 265 Main Street, 259 Main Street, 251 Main Street, and 241 Main Street. Following a coordinated investigation, the Weed Fire Department, with support from Cal Fire SKU Prevention and the Mt. Shasta Fire Department, has determined that the fire was intentionally set. This finding is consistent with the parallel criminal investigation conducted by the Weed Police Department.

The investigation identified two juveniles as being responsible for setting the fire. With the fire investigation now complete, the criminal case will be formally submitted to the Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office for review and further action.

I want to acknowledge the professional and thorough work of our fire and police personnel, as well as our partner agencies that assisted in this investigation. This incident has had a profoundly impactful effect on our community, and I would like to express my appreciation for the patience and cooperation shown by the public during the investigative process.

The City of Weed remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the safety of our residents and business community. We will continue to provide updates as they become available through the proper legal channels.
