City Manager for week ending on 26 October 2025

The City of Weed continues to make significant progress across several community projects, beautification efforts, and upcoming events that bring people together and move our town forward.

Investing in Our Community’s Future

City departments are collaborating to develop one-, five-, and ten-year capital plans that will inform future investments in roads, parks, buildings, and equipment. This long-range planning ensures that Weed continues to grow responsibly and maintain the high quality of services that residents expect.

We’re also exploring ways to modernize the City's connection with the community. City Clerk Sandi Duchi and I are reviewing website providers that can make it easier for residents to find information, submit requests, and access public documents online. With a cleaner layout, better mobile experience, and updated design, the new site will make City Hall even more accessible.

City Hall Roof & Facility Improvements

Work continues on the City Hall roof replacement project. The contractor completed waterproofing ahead of the recent rain, and repairs are now focused on replacing several roof beams that were found to have wood rot. Those beams are being entirely rebuilt to ensure long-term stability and safety.

The construction team is following all OSHA safety guidelines, and City staff are closely monitoring the on-site progress. Once the project is complete, City Hall will have a brand-new roof—an essential step toward extending the building's life and protecting the staff and public spaces inside.

This is just the beginning of a larger series of capital improvements that City staff will be proposing for City Hall over the next several years. Stay tuned for updates as those plans take shape.

City Hall Improvements & Holiday Preparations

Public Works Director Chris Davis and his crew have been working diligently to clean and restore the area outside City Hall. The team removed weeds, repaired the brickwork, replaced light bulbs, and restored the spotlight on the Abner Weed statue. They’ve also tested outlets and lighting in preparation for this year’s Old-Fashioned Christmas Tree Lighting on November 29.

These improvements make a big difference—not just in how the area looks, but in how it feels when residents and visitors stop by. The City extends its appreciation to Chris and his crew for their continued dedication to keeping Weed looking its best.

Celebrating Our Students

The City is partnering with Weed High School Principal Danielle Dewhurst to create a Graduate Banner Program celebrating our graduating seniors. The idea is to display personalized banners featuring photos and names of each graduate along Main Street during graduation season. Once the celebration ends, each banner will be given to the graduate as a keepsake. It’s a small way for the community to show pride in the achievements of our youth and their bright futures ahead.

Community Events

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Trunk-or-Treat celebration—it was a wonderful evening filled with fun, costumes, and candy for the kids. Events like these remind us what makes Weed such a special place to call home.

Our next Listening Session and Town Hall will be held on Monday, October 28, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. This is an excellent opportunity to share your thoughts, ask questions, and talk directly with City staff about what you’d like to see in the future.

Finally, mark your calendars for the Old-Fashioned Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, November 29. This annual tradition brings our community together to ring in the holiday season with lights, music, and warm company in the heart of downtown Weed.
