Weed, CA — 1 October 2025 — The City of Weed will participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m. as part of International ShakeOut Day, when millions worldwide practice earthquake safety.

At 10:16 a.m., City staff across all facilities will practice the life-safety action “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” for approximately one minute. Residents, businesses, schools, and community groups are encouraged to join from wherever they are at that time.

How to participate (everyone, everywhere)

At 10:16 a.m. on 10/16, practice Drop to your hands and knees, Cover your head and neck (and get under a sturdy desk or table if possible), and Hold On until the shaking stops.

If you use a wheelchair or walker, lock the wheels and protect your head and neck until the shaking stops.

Take a few extra minutes to check for falling hazards (unsecured shelves, heavy items above beds/desks) and to review your family or workplace emergency plan.

What to expect from the City

City departments will conduct a one-minute drill followed by brief accountability and safety checks.

Essential public safety and utilities may drill at a different time that day to maintain operations.

The City will share photos and preparedness tips on official channels to encourage community participation.
