Update on Main Street Fire Response and Recovery Efforts

Weed, CA — The City of Weed is providing an update following the September 28, 2025, fire incident that affected multiple properties along Main Street.

City Staff & Site Safety

Today, the City of Weed, in coordination with Shasta Services (dba Timberworks of Mt. Shasta), completed critical site stabilization work at the Black Butte Saloon property and surrounding fire-affected areas. This work included:

  • Sifting through fire debris to ensure that all hotspots were extinguished.

  • Pushing back unsafe portions of the Black Butte structure into the lot to prevent hazards.

  • Street sweeping and cleanup to clear Main Street of debris.

  • Installation of a temporary safety fence surrounding the burn zone to restrict unauthorized access.

As a result of these measures, Main Street has been safely reopened to traffic and pedestrians.

Investigation Status

The Weed Fire Department and Weed Police Department continue to investigate the cause of the fire. At this time, no new information is available, and the investigation remains active. Updates will be provided as soon as verifiable findings are available.

Next Steps

The City is actively working through the legal and logistical details required to mitigate the fire-damaged properties. Public safety remains the City’s top priority, and additional updates will be released as progress is made.
