Statement on September 28 Fire Incident at 241 Main Street

Weed, CA — The City of Weed is providing the following update on the fire that occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at approximately 10:25 a.m. along Main Street.

Incident Overview

At approximately 10:25 a.m. on September 28, the Weed Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded to a major fire incident in the downtown area. The fire originated in an alleyway adjacent to 241 Main Street and spread to impact multiple nearby properties, including 269 Main Street, 265 Main Street, 259 Main Street, 251 Main Street, and 241 Main Street. Crews worked rapidly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

Injuries

One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the response and received prompt medical attention. No civilian injuries have been reported at this time.

Status of Affected Properties

Preliminary assessments indicate that three of the four primary structures involved had been vacant, abandoned, or undergoing abatement for an extended period. Only one of the impacted buildings was actively occupied and operating at the time of the fire. Damage assessments are ongoing.

Status of Investigation

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by the Weed Fire Department and the Weed Police Department. Investigators are gathering witness statements, reviewing available surveillance footage, and examining the scene to determine the exact source and circumstances of ignition. No further conclusions have been made at this stage.

Damage and Impact

The fire caused significant structural damage and resulted in the loss of inventory and fixtures at the listed addresses. The City is working closely with affected property owners and business operators to evaluate losses, secure the area, and plan for recovery efforts.
