Hello Weed community! Here are this week’s updates from your City Manager’s Office. Thank you for staying engaged and informed as we continue to work on improving City services, public spaces, and community connections.

City Hall Facilities Updates

Staff have been working diligently to implement several improvements around City Hall and nearby public spaces. The Public Works Department has been repairing lighting at City Hall, the downtown statue, and the park display. They’ve also been cleaning up the grounds around the Library and City Hall to keep everything looking welcoming and well-maintained.

Public Works is also beginning work to restore several streetlights that have been out of service for many years. You’ll also notice new flags flying at City Hall, including the U.S. flag, the State of California flag, a new custom City of Weed flag, and a Bicentennial flag.

Holiday Decorations in City Park

A big thank-you to Public Works and the Weed Chamber of Commerce for putting up the Christmas tree and decorations in the gazebo. The team worked hard this week to bring an extra dose of holiday spirit to the park.

Community Events Coming Up

Coffee with the City Manager – December 4 (8:00–9:30 a.m.)

Stop by City Hall on Thursday, December 4, for coffee and conversation. This is an open opportunity to share your thoughts, ask questions, or meet your City Manager in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome!

Town Hall Meeting – January 7 (6:00 p.m., Council Chambers)

Our next community listening session will be held on Wednesday, January 7. Mayor Darrell Parham and I will co-host this event to hear your ideas, concerns, and questions about City projects and community issues. We hope to see you there.

Website & Communications Improvements

The City has launched two new official communication channels:

  • City of Weed Facebook Page

  • City of Weed LinkedIn Page

We’re also in the process of transitioning to a brand-new website through TownWeb. This will make it easier to find information, submit forms, and stay updated on City news.

Planning: Capital Projects

City departments have submitted their project priorities for the next one, five, and ten years. These will be combined into a long-term Capital Improvement Plan to help guide future investments in infrastructure, equipment, and community services. This is part of our commitment to long-range planning and responsible budgeting.

Emergency Preparedness

The City is organizing a multi-agency emergency response exercise for February 23, 2026. This will include the Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, and regional partners like EMS, CAL FIRE, and the County’s Office of Emergency Services.

These exercises help make sure that our teams are well-coordinated and ready to respond effectively in real-world emergencies.

State & Federal Engagement

This week, we continued outreach to state and federal officials. We recently hosted Assemblymember Heather Hadwick for a listening session, and we’ve also begun conversations with a representative from U.S. Senator Alex Padilla’s office to help ensure our local needs are understood in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

Thank You

A special thank-you to our dedicated Administration, Public Works, Police, and Fire Department staff for all they do each day. And thank you to our residents for your continued engagement, feedback, and support.

If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out or visit City Hall during our business hours. We are here to serve you.
