OBJECTIVES: The City Council is the legislative body of the City government and is composed of five Council Members elected for overlapping four-year terms. The City Council is responsible for formulating the board policies for the municipal corporation and approving major actions of the key administrative officials through whom the operating activities are carried out. The Council Members choose one of their own to serve as Mayor for a one-year term. The Mayor presides over meetings of the Council, votes as a member of the Council, but has no veto power. The Mayor as a representative of the citizens, represents the City government in all official and ceremonial matters.
LEVEL OF SERVICE: Regular meetings of the city council are held the second Thursday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m. Adjourned and special meetings are also held at dates and times selected by the council on an as-needed basis. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 550 Main Street, Weed, California. Committee meetings, inspection trips, and informal conferences are required so that members may be completely informed on the many phases of the organization. Council members also meet with other officials of federal, state, other local governments and organizations, regarding matters of concern to municipal government. Formal and informal meetings with citizens on the many civic activities is an obligation of the City Council.
