SUBJ:  Weekly Report

The following is a list of some of my activities during this past week and the status of certain projects.  You are invited to contact me for any further information.

Planning Commission – The Planning Commission held their meeting this week with new Commissioner Wesley Dutt being sworn in.  After the swearing in ceremony the annual election of officers was held.  Virgil Tuman was reelected chairperson and Paul Zwetsloot was selected as the new vice chairperson.  The Commission then considered the modification request of the architectural review for the Shasta View Skilled Nursing Facility at 445 Park Street to install a 3,000 gallon oxygen tank.  The installation was conditionally approved.  The Commission also commenced the annual review of the General Plan starting with the Land Use Element.  During this review the Commission wanted to begin implementing certain polices including developing a bed and breakfast standards, and zoning regulations for adult entertainment.  The review of the remaining elements was continued to the next meeting.

Davis Street Railroad Crossing – The staff has been exploring means to have upgraded, or at least repaired, the railroad crossing at Davis Street.  Congressman Herger’s office has placed the City in contact with Union Pacific who is now discussing with their attorneys on how to get CORP to fulfill their contract on maintenance.

Community Center – The community center board has been meeting to fully consider the two alternates of existing buildings for possible use of one as center.  The board is exploring all possibilities within the available funding from the grantors to arrive at a decision soon.

SAGE – An agenda was received this week for the Siskiyou Association of Government Entities meeting to be held on March 9, 2010.  It will be a roundtable discussion for reestablishing regular meetings, issues of interest, and budgeting and staffing.  Please let me know if you are interested in further information and/or attending.

Personnel – A new police officer has been hired to fill an existing vacancy.  The officer is James Clair and he will assume his duties March 12th.  This position has been funded for three years under the federal COPS Hiring Recovery Program, and authorized in the adopted City budget.

Kiwanis – I was invited this week to be the guest speaker at the Weed-Lake Shastina Kiwanis Club.  The presentation included current development taking place or planned in Weed, the budget, the recent winter storm, and availability of information on the City web site.  Questions and answers followed during this half-hour period.
